Projects Galore going on

So.. not only am I on the countdown to school starting (August 30th), I have all these other projects going on. We've just about finished laying down a hardwood floor in our downstairs. That took some time as we didn't want to rip out the existing entry flooring and so were able to match it up pretty well. Saved us a few hundred dollars. I jokingly call it our dance floor at the moment as it's a large room and the furniture is not on it. It will be by tonight though, but still a large space. So, that is one almost done project. However.. now I am revisiting my 'craft/computer/guest/etc' room. This is the largest room in the house I believe. We used to have a bed in it for guests. We've since given that to a family member and have an aerobed. I have all my card making/scrapbooking/cricut etc. stuff pretty organized. I also have all my quilting fabric folded nice and neat and organized in the closet. Same with the computer side. For some reason though, I am just not satisfied with it. The only reason I can think of why I'm not is that it's various furniture that just has 'ended' up there. I've also discovered that although the 12-14" wide table looks really nice.. having a little wider place so you can have say your pens in a jar without getting in the way could be handy. So, I'm looking online on ways to restructure the room. Not really re-organizing as it is, but maybe re-thinking the layout. I don't really take advantage of wall space either for shelves. You don't notice that there's a large barbie house in the room too.. so my girls will play with that. The entire center of the room is empty.. did that for when we have guests.. So.. no answer.. but probably going to drive my hubby nuts when he hears I'm thinking about revisiting that room (even getting rid of the rug there too :) ). I think something totally whimsy and just fun would be cool. After all.. it's a room that needs to spark creativity too. If anyone knows of any great sites for ideas.. please let me know.

Autograph Books

This is my two girls. They had no idea we were going to Disneyland for a family vacation. They've never been. The last time I went, Tomorrowland looked like the 60's. I had spent the past month working on an autograph for each of them using my cricut and all the Disney cartridges pretty much. Funny enough, we drove there and we had them convinced we were going to see grandparents in Texas. Well, we figured our story wouldn't hold up as soon as we got close enough for there to be signs for Disneyland. So what happens? They both fall asleep the last 30 minutes of the drive!! This is them in the hotel we stayed at. My oldest thought I had been a disney fanatic with my cricut lately. They saw me working on the characters, but I just told them I liked Disney (which I do). She no longer thinks I'm totally nuts and now knows one strategy to figure out where you are is to look at license plates. The autograph books turned out great I think. When we got home, I got pictures printed right away and it was a fast and easy job to put them into the books. That's what they've been showing their friends. I'm working on a scrapbook (my first ever) of the trip in between my school projects. I'll put it online as I go too maybe.

My craft space actually tidy.

So this was my craft space nice and tidy. I've done a little moving about of things. I love having it in front of this large window for the light, but I also have the perfect view down our cud de sac to keep an eye on the girls. I can keep the window open and listen etc. I have another area in the room that is my sewing machine etc. Thought I'd throw this up here just for fun, but also to test out a new blogging thing to see if it works for me :)

Summer can't be over yet!

So I went from looking for a job this summer to having one again and thinking I'd have a few more weeks as teacher's don't start here until the end of August. Guess I shouldn't have been 'thinking' that hard. I walked into a classroom with walls, that's it. I knew it was a brand new program that's never existed and was even involved with some of the planning as I'm in the same district I ended in last year. However, I wasn't quite ready for the shock of having absolutely nothing. I thought they had ordered some stuff, but nope.. they hadn't. Found out I have a week and a half training to go to also. Technically it's optional, but the person doing it is a colleague of mine I've known for years so will go just so I can pick on him (and learn something new). So.. I now have some furniture. Got to go spend a bunch of money buying some curriculum and manipulatives (what teacher doesn't love spending money for supplies that's not their own money? :) ). I did make myself a nametag using 'Speaking of School'. I'll have to post some pictures of my classroom work in progress. Probably sounds odd that I'm taking pictures, but I have another friend (colleague) that goes all over teaching about Autism and children with very high needs. She wanted to be able to share with new teachers what you might have in your head what a classroom will look like when you walk into it, and what in reality it could be. Also, where do you start first as it can be overwhelming to have nothing. So, am taking pictures and logging my thoughts as I go just for her. She's a published author so who knows, may end up in a book someday..

There is never a dull day in education and I don't think ever a day where something unexpected happens. :)

It's Friday the 13th!! My favorite (maybe because it's my birthday?)

Friday the 13th doesn't come along too often. I used to love those movies as a kid. Couldn't pay me to watch them now as an adult. Funny huh?  Sorry my pictures are so huge. I need to find out how to make them smaller with the nice textbox like everyone else seems to have. I wonder if there's a blogspot app. for an iphone.. hmm...  Off to dinner and a movie with my husband. The girls are at one of their grandparents for the weekend. Grandparents are great! :)

Sunday, August 8th

So I have spent probably the past hour blog hopping and seeing tons of great idea's for back to school. It's almost overwhelming on fun idea's that I'm not sure where to start. Going back into the classroom after six years in administration is exciting, but starting a brand new program is a tad daunting too. I find out tomorrow what the classroom looks like, what curriculum is there or not there if thats the case, etc. Lots to do by the end of the month before the kids all come!

First blog post into this adventure.

This is my first blog post. I've been following other crafty type blogs for a while now for new idea's etc. I've also seen ones where people are putting up daily thoughts etc.  I have no idea where this might take me, if anywhere, but I'll have fun with it for now.  I thought it might be fun to post up things I create etc. as I've seen others do.  Keep in mind this is a work in progress for me. :)
